i would like to hear of your positive experience(s) with replacing drivers in cabinets or testimonials on custom cabs.

i am looking into driver selection and am tired of comparing specs, charts and graphs.

How about you give us the details of the box you're intending to load these sock-blowing drivers into...?

the old silver frame script logo EV 15" with the brown hammertone case on the magnet.
It replaced and EV "Force" series that was blown. Actually it replaced a JBL that I tried after the EV, but the JBL couldnt handle the ported cabinet as the model (I dont recall which) must have been designed for a sealed box.
That speaker had so much purr and growl in it. I can't beleive I ever got seperated from that speaker and cabinet! I would love to hear how one sounds in a TL606 style cab.

GB, in a cylindrical enclosure, two drivers are best, preferably vertically stacked.

One example of random driver swapping comes to mind. I was trading in an old Mesa 2X15, knowing I'd get about $1.35 for it. I love the old EVM-15 speakers that were in it. My favorite 15 overall for 4 string rock bass. I don't count that one as "knocking my socks off" because I wasn't surpried - I've always liked them.

I put the most disposable speakers I had in the cab, just to get it producing some sort of sound, so I could trade it in and keep my beloved EVs. 2 ancient Carvin Magnalab 15s. Sounded awesome in that cab. Very nearly kept it. Sounded much clearer, deeper and more articulate than the EVs ever had. Didn't have the awesome mids of the EVs, but would have been killer for somebody not playing 4 string rock bass.

Random driver swapping tends to produce random results. Mayyyybe something good....mayyyybe something bad.

Earth to BFM. Earth to BFM. Come in, BFM. Another TB'er needs to be enlightened.

Of course, if the OP does not care about a cab's resulting performance (which not everybody does), then cancel my call for BFM. But if the OP is looking for socks to be blown off, then design details of the cab and the driver are of paramount importance.

Impressive specs! And excellent performance no doubt!

Now.........imagine for a moment..........that you were tired of focusing on specs. What would the end result be?......

I'd say look at the Eminence Kappalites

I use the 3015's and the 3012HO's

Great speakers

I was pleasantly surprised by my GK 212 Neo cab (original version). It has tons of bottom end and a well defined mid. It ain't "booteek" or custom built but it works for me!

Thanks so much.
Any experience with the 3012LF?
I wonder how it would sound in a 1x12 cab?

I am leaning towards a pair of 1x12 cabs for flexibility but want good low end from my 4 string (playing rock.)

Sorry......no experience with the 3012LF's

I believe there is alot of use of the LF series speakers in the Fearful builds.

Maybe take a read through some of those threads.

If he actually is a 'prof' he'd be the one telling you what driver to use, not the other way around.

In all seriousness, the first time I played through a BagEnd S15B-C, I bought it. Within a month, I bought a second one. IMHO, the best single cab I have ever played through, though the SWR 2x12 was a close second. (The Pro stuff, not the Workingman's stuff.)

understood. i typically look to multiple opinions for most things and appreciate the feedback. the "prof" has a 15" karlson cab that he is begging me to try, and i plan on doing so...i admire the omni cabs and the jack cabs that you, sir, have designed. although, i have never had the opportunity to play through either.

i am a hobbyist enclosure builder with ~17 years experience building enclosures and just a few years designing primarily subwoofer enclosures.

i am fascinated with acoustic transmission lines and quarter-wave theory
