EVM12L for bass?
 

Any thoughts on using these for bass?
Appropriate cabs?

I have a pair Mesa 212s loaded with them (sealed) and while they don't fart out, there is very little below 100 Hz so I wouldn't recommend it.

I think they sound very good indeed for bass in the right cabinet.
They may not have the Xmax of an eminence 3012 but they have very high efficiency being 100 dB 1 watt 1 m.
If your tone goals are bright slightly overdriven rock bass.
The old EVM 12L is one of the very best, don't let people tell you it's a guitar speaker because the downtune metal guitarists hold them in very high regard especially when in half open back mesa cabinets, although for me I prefer the brighter EVM 12S short basket version in a sealed cab for guitar.:bassist:

In a ported enclosure things may improve by enough to have 80 Hz
at or about the same average efficiency as an eminence.

If you fiddle with the porting a bit more you would probably be able to get better than that LF extension looking at the lower resonance peak.:bassist:

They do sound good in the right cab, but nowadays, I think there are other great alternatives.

I bet they are quite decent in the right box for low-moderate volumes where you dont need earthshaking boom. For the price you could probably find a better driver. A regular Mesa PH 12" speaker would be legit and $100 less.

Thay're great for bass, if used with a seperate sub they can be used for just about any style out there

If I'm not mistaken Steve Harris of Iron Maiden fame uses the EVM12L in straight Marshall 4x12 cabinets for his rig.
