Excited! NAD!

Hello all... Thanks for providing much information to help me with my decisions.... I have been lurking and searching for a while and have found a tremendous amount of info here.

I have been playing guitar for around 20 years, wow now I feel old. I have always owned a bass and used it for some recording and just goofing off.

I got a chance to fill in for a buddy's band who's bass player had to cancel. Had a great time and have been playing a lot of bass lately. I had an ampeg b100r combo that was nice but I figured it might be time for an upgrade.....

I went to the store during my luch hour and had planned on a GK 700RB II. They had a nice deal on a used 400RB mark IV and after getting more money on trade from the Ampeg than I expected I some extra for the cab. I ended up with the Neo 410. I can still see a 700rb in the future but I think this will work out much better than getting the 700 and an inexpensive cab until I could afford something better.

Well I'm off to fire this thing up and say hello to the neighbors

Report and pics to follow.

Thanks again.

Pics will be coming soon... I have had a chance to play it for a couple hours now and all I can say is Wow!

The range of tone is pretty impressive. Especially coming from the amp I had.

Time to make some noise.

They gave you more $$$$ for the B-100R than you expected because it's a great combo amp, and is the next best thing to a B15!

I play through a house-supplied Ampeg B100R at a local jazz jam session and when set flat it is remarkably good and plenty loud. I agree, you will come to miss it ;-)

Ok... The good news is I love the sounds I am getting.

One setting is with the contour off, boost about 2:00, cut bass a little, slightly boosted high mids. Not there yet but it reminds me of the Duff tone. Aggresive and a little growly...

At the other end of the spectrum I have the contour about 11:00, presence 1:00, some roll off on both the lows and highs and slightly boosed both mids. Boost about 9:00. I'm getting a really smooth but defined tone. It is a very "polite" sound, I think this will work well for the country stuff.

Now the bad news... The clip light on the input section does not work and when I tried pluging into the effects loop with a compressor there was no sound at all. Anyone have either of these problems?

I know the guys at the shop well enough I am not worried about them making it right with me but that was the only used one they had. It will be another couple hundred to go new. I'm already $150 overbudget but figured I was so close to the better cab I would regret it later if I cheaped out.

Yeah the Ampeg is a great amp and pretty loud for 100 watts. For some reason I could never find the sound that felt right to me. I'm sure it will make someone very happy though.

I will get some pics tonight and will be speaking with the guys at the shop tomorrow moring and will post an update then.......

Great news! The effects loop was pilot error. Now I feel old and dumb. I would still like the clip light to work but I don't think that will be major surgery. Anyone else with a cliplight failure?

Here is a quick pic of the new rig... not a great pic I'll get a better one posted when I have a chance.

JimmyM, that's a pretty good point. I'm just nervous about smokeing those new speakers. Coming from a guitar background I am used to being able to turn any knob all the way up without any problems (except maybe the bass player yelling at me ) Bass rigs seem more like a PA system to me where gain structure is fairly important.

you raise a good point. since low end on guitar isn't as demanding on speakers as low end on bass, it's not as hard on them as it can be on bass speakers. but high gain won't do it by itself...it's overall volume between the gain + whatever level you set your master + whatever level your bass knob is set that matters. if you're getting amp distortion but not speaker farting, you're fine. it's the speaker farting you have to watch out for.
