Question Explain this cab I saw...

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got back from a Gwar show, the opening act, Mobile Death Camp's bassist was using a cab that perplexed me. It appeared to be a 610 but the top speakers may have been 212's. There was some kind of cover over the speakers (probably why I perceive them as 212's). Any explanation?

If I could see what you saw I might be able explain what was seen. However the unseen, no matter how extreme, cannot be explained as something that was seen. So yeah, I can't help you.

This is all guesswork but that sure looks like a Carvin 8x10 with the red horn thingumie. Given the posing going on perhaps he blew up two drivers so the 6 is what's left. Maybe he rewired it with 6 to some odd impedance to get "more" out of the amp?

My band just opened for Gwar on Saturday night. That cab was a Carvin 8x10 with the top 2 speakers gone. I didn't get a chance to ask the guy if there was any reason why he did that.

Agreed Jim. Find it odd that a manufacture would put 2x12's at the top of the cab but, stranger things have happened...

That's it. I could have sworn I saw it as 6 speakers with the two top ones covered.

it looks like he's got covers over the holes. well at least he was smart enough to do that. but i so don't get the idea.

please correct my failing eyesight, but is that an svt 4 pro on top?

+1 on the covers, they clearly aren't just holes. this is about as good of a look as we are going to get. in the second pic we see where the real thump is coming from tho...

i think it might be an svt 5 pro...

Passive radiators maybe? Need a better pic in any case.

I saw these guys twice when Gwar was at the Westcott. The guitarist is the bassist of Gwar if you can't tell. He is way better at guitar than bass.

Bass was kind of muddy for every band no matter what rig was being played. Wescott Theater has up-to-date sound gear for the soundman but the PA in the place is old and lacking. If you live around here check out the Lost Horizon's massive PA.

I play in Elephant Mountain. My guitarist actually owns the lost. We play there every 3 mos or so.

Gwar plays the Westcott all the time these days...they probably can sense that it used to be a porn theater.
