Extension Cabinet for Traynor DB200

Sign in to disble this ad
I am relatively new to playing bass (in fact, to playing any musical instrument at all!) and to all the technicalities with bass gear.

I recently purchased a Traynor DB200 combo amp (1x15, 200W, with tweeter) which can handle an extension cabinet and I was wondering about the benefits of adding a 2x10 cabinet.

For the same output from the bass and amp, would each speaker work less and create a generally BETTER sound or would each speaker work the same and produce a generally LOUDER sound ?

I ask this question because I don't really need louder sound while I figure that quality can always be improved...

Also, is there any reason, other than having similar-looking cabs, to stick with the same brand and look for a Traynor 2x10 cabinet or really any other 2x10 cabinet would do ? (I understand that I would still need to respect the amp specs)

In that case, any thought on what could be a good alternative to a Traynor 2x10 cabinet ?

Thank you

Get a TC1510 cab. its 4 ohms, and will make your combo sound HUGE.

I wouldn't recommend adding a 4ohm cab to already 8ohm system, unless the power amp can handle a 2.6ohm or lower load. In which case I don't think that combo can. Go for an 8ohm extension cab with either a 1x15 or 2x10 depending on your preference.

More speaker area means more volume. Not always better tone. But again, that is subjective.

2 of the same would indeed improve the tone, due to speaker coupling. A matching 8 ohm 1x15 is the BEST option, however a matched 2x10 will also work. The matching cabs ALWAYS work best.
