Fan Direction help on Markbass LM II

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys I have been having a fan noise issue with my 2 yr old Markbass LM II and took the top plate and took the fan out to hit it with canned air to clean it out, I spaced out(duh) and didn't check the direction it was moving before I removed and cleaned it. Anyone have one they check for me. Thanks.

Does it have multiple fans? If so, you want one in, and one out.

If not, it's not important as it pertains to the laws of thermodynamics and convection. By pushing hot air out, you're inherently pulling the cooler outside air into the head, and vice versa. I generally prefer a fan-out myself.

The only possible way it would matter is if your fan causes the heat from your heat source to pass directly over parts that are extremely heat-sensitive, but I can't imagine any piece of gear in an amp is that sensitive other than the heat-source itself.

Tl;dr - It doesn't matter.
