Fane Colossus 15" woofer replacement options?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Warwick 115 cabinet with a Fane Colossus 400w 8ohm 15" woofer. The sticker on the back says 2002. Old bastard. Anyway, it was doing some funky vibration that it wasn't supposed to, so I took the woofer out and brought it to a local speaker repair guy who discovered that the spider was no longer attached to the cone most of the way around.

Options are recone or replace. It looks like a recone will cost around $120, if he can get the parts. I would probably only do this if factory parts are available to do it (he's currently looking to see what's available) as opposed to having just a generic recone kit installed.

Instead of re-coning, short of finding another identical woofer at a cheap price, what are some good replacement options for this woofer? I'm amp/speaker dumb so I don't really know what additional info is needed here past the watts and ohms.

Thanks for any advice.

Those with similar T/S specs and SPL response, which are found on the manufacturer driver data sheets.

Are you sure that your speaker is actually a standard issue Fane Colossus 15 and not a Warwick OEM version ?

You can check the Fane website here.
They say that they have appointed a new distributor, Penn-Elcom, in the US.
You could also trying to call them....

Good luck !

I forgot I posted this. I found a local speaker repair shop who reconed my speaker, and it sounds good as new.

As far as it being a Warwick OEM version, I don't know enough to make that determination. I did not see any Warwick markings on the woofer. Only Fane.

Might not have been original to the cab, which might be why it broke.
