Unhappy Faulty Rack Tuner Input

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello talkbass tech dudes who know all things and can fix stuff!

here it is:

I have a combo amp that has the Fender RT1000 tuner rack in it

The tuner works fine with the front input of the tuner

The Tuner out from the back of the amp works fine (tested) - this would go to tuner input at the back of the tuner rack

Tuner rack works if i connect Tuner output on back of amp to the input on the front of the tuner rack

So in short,
I rate the tuner input at the back of the rack is faulty... as nothing happens there...

i would like to be able to use my mute to tune ability with the tuner rack without having cables flying everywhere (ie from tuner output behind the amp all the way around to the front of the tuner rack input...)

Has anybody had a problem like this before?
what could the problem be?
Is it DIY-able?

any input is appreciated

Many thanks

on my korg rack tuner, there is a switch to select between the inputs. if yours has an input on the front and back, i assume there would be a switch. what does the owners manual say?

Neither of mine do, DTR1000. however if you plug into the front input the back one is disconnected. My suggestion would be to remove the case and spray contact cleaner on the front socket. See if that helps your situation.

I have the same issue with my BX1500 and its tuner out. I have yet to get around to diagnosing the problem.

We never seem to have the time/energy to work on our own stuff?

Thanks for your reply,

Had a look, there are no switches to select inputs
I don't have a manual got this on a trade in...
Haven't got round to sorting it out until now

Everything else is working fine, its just that one input
Could there be something wrong with the input?

Should I open her up and take a look?
Didn't just dive in I wanted to hear from people that have had experience
With this sort of thing first

Thanks

Input jacks are prone to dirt and loosening up. clean the jack. Isopropyl alcohol and a Q tip will work.
First check for dirt residue on the Qtip, then open it up.
Typically 2 wires on the jack, often one is broken off and needs to be resoldered.
Some jack leads are mounted on circuit board and those junctions are prone to cracking the solder joint. I have fixed many of these connections as an electronic tech.
