Favorite tube heads...hm...Top 10:

1. Matchless Thunderchief
2. Reeves Custom 225
3. Divided by 13 TBL 200
4. Sadowsky SA200
5. Matchless Superchief (similar awesome tone to the thunderchief, but less power makes for less low end. Still pretty amazing though.)
6. Hiwatt DR405
7. Fender 400 PS
8. Orange AD200
9. Mesa 400+
10. Mesa D180

Honorable mention: Ampeg SVT. Classic sound, obviously has withstood the test of time, just not my personal preference.
Sunn 300 as well.

I would like to try a Verellen Meat Smoke, Wizard, 65Amp, Ark Amp, Electric, and a whole bunch of others.

That's my kind of list.
Big +1 on the "Thunderchief"
Only made for a few years, but what a tone.
The Thunderman combo kills too.
The D180, SA200, and Orange AD200 make me smile too.
Sunn 200s, is great also.
And have heard good things about the Morgan 200 watt head?

You know what? I played a stingray through a tweed Fender Bassman 4x10 combo and was thoroughly impressed. It really combined well with the punchy 'ray tone. I might just have to buy it.

my top 6

1 Traynor YBA1a...sounds like a tube amp, raw and powerful
2 Mesa D180-Very powerful, not as raw, almost too polite but still great.
3 Traynor YBA3-Louder, but not as awesome as the yba1a
4 Mesa Bass 400-pretty damn great, too clean almost though.
5 70's era SVT-They should make a one knob version, just loud-louder-loudest.
6 Mesa Bass 400+-kinda too clean compared to a 400 non plus or an svt, but louder than effing hell and gets nice and grindy at volume.

Wow! I can't believe it took 13 posts for the V4-B to show up. ...'70's model, of course.

I have a Mesa D180. It's incredible. I play mainly black metal, but I use it for doom as well, and could probably play it clean for jazz, as it can actually get quite thumpy.

I've also played through an Ampeg SVT-CL. Nice fat sound.

As to ones I've heard, the SVT2Pro is great, as is the Sunn 300T/Fender 300pro. 70's SVT's are fantastic, too.
