I just picked up one of these amps, and I need to get it on top of my '66.

| Thanks for the encouragement, Jazzdogg. I can't wait to check it out. The Fishman gets the job done, but I've never been blown away by the tone. |

I have placed some orders for our European brethren that took a several days for Francis to reply with a shipping notice. And some other times where it was just one day later. I take this as a good sign that he is being kept busy. |

So, I got mine today and ran a quick test this morning in front of my MB800. Tamed that booty quickly.
My question for the class is how are you guys setting these for your rooms? This is my first HPF. I read (I think Chef) where he turns his CCW until he hears something take away from his sound and then leaves it alone for the gig. Any other tricks of the trades on getting it dialed for the room? Thanks.

Thanks. | I have been running my HPF between my bass and the amp. I start with it all the way off and bring my amp up to volume, and listen to whats going on in the room. A lot of the times the 35hz cut off is just fine and I dont have to bring it any higher. Some rooms are funky so I bring it up till I hear the funk go away, I turn the dial up as little as possible. To be honest I dont really pay attention to where I am setting it. "just enough" is dictated by my ears.

| | EmotitionLogicianMusician | | Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Spinning aqueous sphere | | | I have performed almost every week the past several months using the HPF-Pre Series 3 between my bass and DI, fed to FOH. The Series 3 is set at about "3," corresponding to an analog clock face (white reference mark on knob directly faces volume control to right, which is fully turned up). My band has great subs, and the Series 3 removes rustle and rumble that occur due to big volume in relation to my less-than-perfect 5-string technique.
I also use the series 3 with several older bass heads that lack hp filtering, in order to lose low-frequency rumble.
Thanks, fdeck. I am very happy with your HPF-Pre Series 3.

a kit would be awesome, a parts list and layout would be pretty danged good, but a finished ready-to-go box would be the bees knees! |

GK MB800
Fender Super Bassman 300
I REALLY liked what it did to the GK. It's low end, even with 3015 loaded Dually and Bassic can be a bit wide. The fdeck HPF tightened up the bottom significantly. Very cool.
On my new Fender Super Bassman it wasn't as noticeable I "think" because it already has decent roll off in the lows. It did, however, get rid of a lot of extraneous mush in my practice room. I can't wait to use it on gigs with different room dynamics. WIN.

At the moment, I can run my upright ->Series 2 into the effects return and leave both instruments plugged in because the effects loop is in parallel mode. This works well enough for now, but I would like to come up with a simple front-end solution that doesn't cost as much as a Radial Bassbone or PZ-Pre. |

i think fdeck's hpf would be great to use in conjunction with the pz pre. the pz pre is a serious tone tool. i never gig without it, and i use the hpf on the pz pre unit and somtimes wish i had just alittle more, but not as much as the 200hz setting provides. using the pz in conjunction with the fdeck unit might be like just having the series 3, except spread out over 2 boxes.
i sometimes do exactly this with the built in hpf on the AI head |

IMO, the AI amps are probably the best "all in one" solution for doublers and I sometimes wish I had held onto my Clarus for the doubling gigs... I guess my goal now is to simplify the setup and have as few peripheral devices as possible and save some $$. |

got my HPF3 just yesterday, itīs doing absolutely well.
but it would be cool to have the option of setting the cutoff point even higher, iīm already running the 140Hz setting (7string bass in a band with another bassist for the low-end).
if i got it right, thereīs a 33k resistor + a 100k pot for the cutoff point.
using a 250k pot would then result in a cutoff range from roughly 35 - 300Hz.
but would changing the pot (= setting it to a higher cutoff point) have any side effects on the circuit operation?
