fEARful 15 Sub Questions

Sign in to disble this ad
How does either shunt capacitor affect power handling on the 15 Sub ? And what would be the power handling for each version ? Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that one 15 Sub has an 8 ohm impedance. I'm planning for a build project.

Thank You

All 15 subs are 8ohm. The low pass that is in the cabinet soaks up so little power as to be unnoticeable/negligible. Eminence has alternately listed the driver's thermal rating at 400 or 500w, although that's the thermal rating only, and the excursion limited rating is somewhere in the 700 to 800 range. Many of us who run them, are hitting them with BIG power without negative consequence.

I think upping the shunt value helps roll it off at a little steeper rate, "over-damping". If you go too far with it, you might have to re-label it as a 6ohm cab but all the homework is extremely detailed and well done on these fearfuls. They're all 8ohms, insertion loss is nil, just follow the plans and enjoy.
