Hi everyone, been seriously looking at building a 12/6, maybe 2.
Can someone tell me the average weight of these built in 12mm poplar ply, got to look after my old back.
Also thinking of getting a genz amp, but can't decide between the shuttle 9.0 or the streamliner 9.0.
Any help would be good.
Thanks.

| | | you'll find a lot of info on finished fearful cabs here both 12/6 and 12/6 cubes. you'll get an idea of finished weight depending on the hardware you require. At a guess you'll be looking at some where around the 35-40lb mark.
Best of luck.

I'll soon be building another. This one will be an Arauco flatpack kit from Speaker hardware. I'll include the weight in my build/review thread.

I was wondering how the alpha worked out, as the 18 sound is proving hard to get here in the uk.
Might go for a tweet as well ( switchable of course).

For 12/6 the 18 Sound mid is mainly for the people whjo later might add a 12sub or 15sub. It has enough sensitivity and power handling to allow a crossover design with a switch on it to change the padding.
The Alpha or Alphalite 6" drivers work great, and if you add a second cab later you can always have a mirror-image baffle with a second mid driver.
Either way, you are not hemmed in.
With lighter plywoods complete with all hardware a 12/6 seems to usually hit 35-37 pounds. If someone found a good poplar or multi species they could do better yet. |

After ten years + using ashdown kit, it's time for a change.
Forgot to add that I will probably have to bug you guys when it comes to crossover time.
I'm clueless about them but quite able.

Many have found it pays to read or ask BEFORE - and not AFTER ; } |

| | | i had found this site in the past for the 18sound, only problem is it is Finish. They now have it for €89 which is a lot cheaper than when i looked at it initially, think it was around €119
Might be worth asking BlueAran, i asked them around the time of my order about the 18sound, they said if there was enough interest they would look at getting them in. They are not listed on their site however might be worth giving them a call. They now carry the alphalite so there is another 2lbs saved.

I have played an a rock setting with drums and a Marshall 1/2 stack and the 12/6 had more to give. But with a 12/sub it will be mo better. You won't regret the 12/6. At worst it makes a great small gig cab. But mine does all gigs so far. |

Dizzy G, what tweeter did you go for?

| | | Used an ASD1001 with dayton waveguide. Got most of the speaker hardware from bluearan. I kinda regret not using an 18sound mid so that i could go with just a 12 sub, however if i need another i will go with a 12/6 with alphalite (mirriored baffle) and no tweet the next time. Cost of two alphas and cross over components is still less than the 18sound.
You can have a look at my build here if you like.

How did you make that nameplate?

| | | Tuff Cab is great, i watered it down for the port and baffle and sprayed about 5 coats, with sanding in between, it dries in minutes. Tried spraying it to get the textured effect but i think you need a hopper fed gun, had to resort to textured roller instead, 2 coats. Debating doing a second 12/6 to use it up before it goes off, at least that is my excuse.
Nameplate is done on a laser marker, it is titanium with a clear lacquer coat over it.
Thanks for kind words too.

| | | | How would the Alphalite 6A-CBMR compare to the Alphalite 6A in a 3015LF 12/6? Sealed or Vented cab? |
03-27-2011, 03:18 PM
| | | | Oops. I meant, how would the Alphalite 6A-CBMR work in a 3012LF 12/6, not 3015LF. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
