Personally, I'm just wondering if the Headcase allows one to
1) Run from the output of an 8ohm fEarful sub
2) Then into a headcase (midrange-only) cab that's also 8ohms, equalling 4ohms
3) AND have the mid padded and rolled-off at 500Hz so it only takes a small percentage of the watts and lets the rest go to the sub--or is that the sole-province of impedance? |
Here's how mine work:
Plug amp output into the top box (headcase). Run second cable between top box and headcase. That cable sends the low pass portion of the crossover in the top box to the woofer.
The mid driver gets the high passed signal, at somewhere between 400 and 800 Hz depending on which box format and mid driver I'm using. I have a fixed L-pad following the high pass section of the crossover to match sensitivities of the woofer and mid driver. The impedance my amp sees is 8 ohms nominal.
If for some reason you want a 4 ohm system impedance you need two woofers and an appropriate crossover -- see the 1515/66 or 1212/6 for an idea how that works.
You could put just the low pass section into the sub cab, or the whole crossover. None of this is any different than having all the components in a single box in terms of impedance and crossover design.
