fEARful speaker question

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi I was wondering if anyone has gone off the plans for a fEARful and used the delta 12 lfa's for a 1212/6. How much would this change the cab? Those neo's are expensive and I want to do a build like a fEARful in a 1212/6

I would be keen to hear if you could use a 12 LFA in a 12/6

Neo or Ceramic for fEARful cabinets ?

fEARful 12/6 - Ceramic instead of Neodymium?

Going with a 15/6 over a 1212/6 would cut your cost considerably.

Not if you have a 2x12 with D12LFs already.

bite the bullet, stick to the plans and dont look back

It would cut the displacement limited power handing by 75%.
If you have to ask what the result of driver swapping would be you should not be considering it.

If you use any speaker other then the kappa it will not be a fEARful!! These cabs are engineered for those speakers as well as the crossovers. If you want to use inferior speakers to try to build a fEARful you might as well buy one if the many commercial made cabs and don't wast your time or money for something you can buy at any music shop. fEARfuls are fEARful for a reason and to cheep out because you don't want to spend a few extra $$$ rends the fEARful pointless!!!

The Delta 12LFA is a very nice woofer, but it would take two of them to move as much air as the mightly Kappalite 3012LF. It's also less than half the price of the Kappalite, so it offers more displacement and more SPL per dollar, at the expense of size and weight.

Yeah, just stick to the plans Bro. The end results will be MUCH better.

And yes, the 15/6 is definitely cheaper and still totally "loud".

It would no longer be a fEARful. It would however be a good bass cab. If you already have the woofers, do it. Just don't call it a fearful and don't expect to use any of the designs/parts from a fEARful. It's designed specifically for the drivers it uses and yours should be too. Just design design a good box for your 12's, use a pair of emi. Alpha 6's or a single hotter mid and put a great deal of effort into a good crossover....or biamp.

Using those drivers in fEarful design would be like putting bicycle tires on a Harley.

The sensitivity of the ceramic LFA and neo LF are a little on the low side around 94/95 dB so they do work rather well but are power hungry.
Both speakers are muddy and would not work for some depending on your needs for highend as fullrange.

So your still going to need a good single 6.5 or 2 lower cost 6.5inch speakers to get the highend you need, and still be able to design a crossover that would work.

You could still get a light cabinet and save some Bucks using a lower cost Neo.

The Basslite S2012 hits around 96/97 dB and as a pair would have more sensitivity and get you to the same place with lower power.

The S2012 has good highend so you could just run a pair fullrange, and call it a day.

blah blah blah commence bashing and nearful screaming.......... .................................................. .....................now!

Otherwise on another note Eminence released a new series to the Pro series the Impero

New 12 , 15 , 18.... heavy, high excursion, low sensitivity and power hungry. Perfect for the power hungry modern designer.
the 12 is 6mm xmax and the 15 is 7mm.

From what I understand the fEARful is designed around the 3012LF drivers, if you change them, you won't get fEARful performance. If you want to use the drivers that you already have, you would need to do a complete redesign, including the crossover.
Also, the suggestions to build a 15/6 probably didn't consider that the 1212 is a 4 ohm cabinet which could make a big difference as well. If you can swing it, stick to the plans, build a 1212. I did, and I am still amazed by it.
