| | | | @lew: would you suggest nothing smaller than a 2x12? i will primarily use the amp for practice at home and maybe a small club gig here and there. since i live in an apartment, i just don't want to fireup my 2x12 to practice because it might be a bit much for my student neighbors. |

| | | | A 112 will be fine. Just use some common sense that you cant pump too many watts into it. I run a 500 watt amp into one of my 112 avatars all the time, but keep my master on 9:00. At a larger gig, I run both cabs (4ohm load) and sometimes D.I. too. Check my signature.

@jtc, does your avatar have a tweeter on it or is it just a woofer? my 2x12 has a tweeter on it but i can't recall if avatar puts em on the single speaker cabs.

It does fine for practice and stage monitoring both indoor and outdoor. I just played an outdoor party gig on Saturday and it did fine (although I always have FOH support from the DI out). I had originally planned to get a matching 8 ohm cab so I could tap the full power of the MB2-500 at 4 ohms, but honestly, I have yet to find myself in a situation where I needed more headroom. In fact, I have more trouble keeping my rig quiet enough so it doesn't dominate the mix. I rarely run above 10:00 on the Gain and 9:00 on the Master.
I play in a cover band with 3 guitars, drums and congas playing hippy rock. We play smaller bars, restaurants and parties. We typically average 75-100 people but I've used this rig at party of 250 in a large ballroom and had no problem.

| | Registered User | | | | the 1x12 avatar i had was a large enclosure for a 1x12, was light,
and had a wide, more vintage like tone.
big sounding for a 1x12.
it had a neo speaker, was 350 watts.
great cab, ok horn (didn't use much of it).
as a standalone fine within reason (probably not ideal alone for metal or competitive drummers).
cool green tolex too...
oh, also, sounded good with a low b.

4 ohm ceramic speaker.Love it! Good for a 5 string,I like the Marcus tone and at first I thought it was a bit harsh on the high end.Turns out I had the horn up way too high. For me it seems to blend best at 1/4 to 1/3 up.I'm getting a second 112. |

Seems like for your thing you need to move some major air. For Robbie Shakespeare type of stuff the little 12 might just not be the right thing. |

I used it extremely briefly on stage with various configurations, but that never worked in the least. I've played other 112 cabs that were more palatable sounding.

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Dec 2006 Location: Dover Delaware | | | I have been using my SB112 to gig small/med blues gigs for about 6-7 years now. I had a Kappa Pro in it, and now have the 4 ohm delta LF in it. It handles most rooms without issue.
I also have a 4-10 neo (Also avatar) and sold my svt410 hlf due to weight. I will probably get the Portaflex PF15 cab also - to mount the PF 500 head. The reason I mention that is that I have used the PF500, Peavey T Max, SWR 550X, Qsc plx 1602 and RBI and more recently the Shuttle 6.0 to fuel the SB112. It has had great tone, a fantastic voice, and carried a LOT of rooms without issue.
I think it really depends on the room, members of the band/equipment, and of course type of music/levels for you. If I had to guess - 575-600 shows + rehearsal + home noodling on it.
I blew the first LF12 because I didn't understand how that QSC and RBI rig worked with it and over exerted the cone. Valuable lesson - it has been fine since. |

'Skie's description of the tone of his 112 is exactly what you'd expect from that 3 db 80 Hz bump that the stock port produces with that cab. I'm totally digging the tone from my two SB112s (neo versions), modded to block one port. I've also gotten similar tone from retrofitting Eminence Basslites in a couple of slightly smaller 112+tweet cabs.
