Hello,
I have a Crate EL-10B electra series bass amplifier.... I have had it for ten or so years but still in great condition! It has an 8" speaker and has output power rating of 10 watts @1% THD. What ever that means. But know lets get down to it. When ever i plug my bass in to the amp i get a real low pulse threw my strings and its shocks me when i push down on the strings! Then i noticed that the amp its self would shock me when i touch it in a specfic place like the corner of the cabinet wher there was a screw that held the corner together. Is there anything i can do or check to fix this problem! My Dad says to just play threw it and feed of it but, it shocks a little to much to keep playing. Well thanks in advanced for your help. THANK YOU... |

Unplug it and don't try to use it until it's been fixed by a competent tech. |

Are you using a THREE prong outlet and cable? That third prong is the ground, which you need.
Do NOT use the amp through a three prong to two prong adaptor, or if the third prong ground pin is broken off your cable.
If that's not the case, try a different outlet, there might be something wrong with the one you have been using.
If the problem continues, its the amp. Get it fixed and do NOT play it until you do.

If you were grounded a bit better (say, barefoot and standing on concrete, or leaning against a pipe or metal pole going into the ground) you might be getting more than a slight shock. You could be getting a fatal shock. Use Google to find out how little amperage it takes to stop the human heart, and you'll see what thin ice you have been skating upon.
I'm usually not one to tell anyone not to listen to their dad, but I'll make an exception here: when it concerns safety issues, especially electrical safety issues, DO NOT LISTEN TO YOUR DAD!!!

I had a 6SN7/6V6/5Y3 amp from before my mom was born and thanks to some shoddy grounding, I felt a nice 28VAC going through my bare feet to concrete garage floor. Ouch!
Yes, I later measured the voltage.

I bet the OP has a lot of brothers and sisters and his dad is just trying to 'thin the herd'.
