I don't, although I really do love the sound of my Radio Shack violin bass through Ampegs too

I've got a gig tomorrow night (ugggggggghhhhh ... on a weekday) and I'll have my faux-Fender (a Bill Nash '57 P Bass) with my Ampeg rig. I plan on rocking the house!

A nice little bit of tube OD with a P and stainless rounds & a slight mid boost played with a pick= Timelss rock tone. But that's just my opinion.

Ya know....I have been playing bass for 31 years and have played through an Ampeg for 5 songs. It was a solid state amp to boot. Back in '95 I believe. But, that is all about to change with the PF500 set to arrive tomorrow. Yea, it's not 300 watts of SVT, but I am excited. (especially since I don't know what 300 watts of SVT into an 8x10 sounds like) Pathetic huh?

No, not pathetic at all...actually it's pretty sweet I own a 69 SVT and I totally love my Micro VR and PF350. It's not quite the same but it's closer than it's ever been with the Ampeg micros.

I must confess to being slightly more partial at the moment towards a Jazz into an SVT but either one (J or P) will get me going. Pulled the SVT out again with the Jazz the other day and couldn't believe why I'd ever stopped playing that combination.

I have a GB NeoX 212t and an Aguilar DB 210. So those will be my main cabinets. I am also expecting a GK neo 112 II to be here tomorrow. So I am hoping I can use that cabinet instead of the 60lb Aggie. We will see. I think with those three cabinets to choose from I got every gig covered. If all else fails, I can break out my old Peavey 4x12 and really get 'em to hear me.

Yep, that's what I am hoping. I love my Shuttle 6.0 and my Walkabout alot. My thoughts are that this PF500 will be an amp that creates a triangle of 3 completely different amps, each one sounding completely different than the others. Ampeg is one of those amps that I never got to check out, so I am looking forward to this amp.

Fender-Ampeg-CL favors Jazz bass?

This is just my experience. But, I personally feel that the Ampeg SVT-CL sounds its best with a jazz bass. It seems to punch through with bass much more so than a p-bass will. Ive had better results with a vintage precision, but a jazz just seems more alive with that amp to my ears. Maybe its the way the preamp is designed. Now- Ive never heard a p-bass through a VR or vintage SVT, but I imagine the results are very favorable with a p-bass and jazz! Just my opinion...

Any passive Fender into an all tube SVT will kill, but I must confess to loving the Jazz at the moment.

I agree either P or J. Jazz seems tighter, with more punch , where P seems to bloom phat underneath. I think if you have a P and a J you can cover any gig. Especially through an Ampeg.
