Question Fender or Ashdown?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello everyone,

I'm in the market for a new bass head and have narrowed my options down to the Ashdown 575 and the Fender TB-600. From my research many respectable bassists play both and I am torn between the two. I would definatley try them both if they were easily accessible where I live but they're not.

Does anyone have any experience with these or recommendations?

If it helps I play P-basses in a 3piece alt/rock band and like a clean to somewhat dirty tone.

Ashdown are good. So are Fender.
:-/ Doesn't the TB600 do even more than 600w & go to 2 ohms? From all the great reports re the Fender... It'd get my vote. Just.

I do this pretty much exactly, and was running an Ashdown ABM 500 Evo III and it was awesome.

Only say "was" because I bought an SVT and that's lots of fun too.

I'd still recommend the Ashdown to all that play alt rock

Maybe you should consider the Genz Benz Streamliner too.
I have switched from an Ampeg V4BH to a Streamliner 900 recently, I think it has a great tone. I play stoner rock, so I'm quite reluctant to "modern micro heads", but the SL900 really rocks.
Fender will also reissue the Bassman head in 100 and 300 watts in september, with modern features.

I have to say, aside from paid endorsers, I've never seen anyone use a new Fender head. That doesn't mean that they are not good - it's just that they seem to be just another Fender head that they pay folks to play; On the other hand, I've known many folks who use Ashdown gear and dig it (myself included) and I assure you, no one pays me to use it or provides it for free.

Ashdown, i play similar stuff, and with my mag300 combo i can get nice cleans and dirty tones, spent the first day checking out the eq and other features, and i have found a few different sounds from the same bass i really like.
