Fender Bassman 100T - chapter 2 - Page 8

Well I am just floored by the awesome.

This is my first all tube amp and now I feel like I've wasted years of my life chasing a sound that doesnt exist in SS and hybrid amps.

My two favorite settings so far:
-Vintage channel 6-6-6, Pbass deluxe on passive with tone rolled off, fingerstyle.
Its a great delta blues and Motown sound. Thick, rich and creamy with a touch of crunch.
-OD channel with gain and blend at 6, bass and treble flat, low mids (3) boosted (7), bass in active mode with onboard eq flat, played with a pick.
This is really where the rubber meats the road for the tube amp. Thick and crunchy with shimmery highs. Really quick and grunty note response. It feels like hitting the strings and having the sound hit you back just as hard.

It's always hard to exactly describe tone in words but what I can tell you is that I have never felt in total control of my sound until now. This a fantastic amp and bar none the best music gear purchase I have ever made. I am ecstatic!

Its not as heavy as I thought and it looks fantastic, the pics dont do it justice. If anybody is on the fence, just buy it. It's well worth it and you will not regret it.

As far as volume goes for the 100T/410 combination, its more than enough. I can't run at 100 watts at my house but 25 watts is perfect. This amp is just as loud at 100 watts as my Ampeg 7PRO (1000 watts) was through a 410.

There has been a some talk about getting a sealed cab for these new Fenders but I have got to say that after gigging both my 100T and Super Bassman 300 with the neo 610 and my Bergantino NV 215 sealed I have no issues at all with taking the Fender neo 610. Looks aside, the neo is really a very good aural match with the amps, and does not sound to me like other ported cabs. It is much tighter in the bottom end than other ported cabs I have used, possibly due to each pair of speakers being in their own tuned enclosure. It is a magic match with both the 100T and the SB300 to my ears, and I would urge others to try it first before aassuming that a sealed cab would be preferable to the neo 410 or 610.

Yea but a sealed 215 vs 610 is a bit different. Not a straight comparison.

Yeah, and just wait 'til about the 4th gig. It limbers up and sweetens up. At least my 100T/410neo did.

A GP friend of mine uses a old Bassman 50 and 412 cab.
We plugged my 100T into his cab . He tried his LP with P90's a Tele and a LP with 'buckers.

At 25 watts it was loud, at 100 it was stupid loud.
Once the word gets out to the guitar players it will be even harder to find one.

I played mine with an electric guitar at a gig last night! I didn't want to haul another rig to the gig and we did some old rockers with a guest on stand-up bass and I switched to guitar for 5 songs.....my Gretsch sounded so good through my 100T and my 410 Neo!

The rhythm guitar sounded much better through my bass rig than it does through my normal rig, a '59 Bassman (reissue)!

I'll be doing this more often!!

Thank you Tim, although I will not be in a financial position to afford a cab in the short term following my getting the 100t, this does quell my hesitation and concern about the 'sealed' vs. 'ported' dilemma.

Hi Adivin, pleased to see you are still around. Fair point, but if you remember when I originally bought my neo 610 I also still had my Bergantino NV610 and was able to compare them side by side. I was able to eq the Fender cab to near as the Berg if I wanted to, but not vice versa. The Fender cab had a smoother and more extended top if needed and went deeper if needed, while the Berg 610 had more prominent mids (which I could eq in with the parametric mids on the overdrive channel. The NV215 I love and will never sell, but I have since sold my Bergantino NV 610 which speaks volumes for my confidence in the fender cab. I do think that the separated compartments for each speaker pair in the Fender neo cab must be part of its success as it seems to have far more control of the bottom end than other ten inch speakers I have played.
Didn't really want to post that I have sold the Berg 610 as I am a huge fan of Bergantino cabinets, but let it be out there now that I actually prefer the Fender neo 610 over the Berg with the Fender heads. It may not have been the same result if I had kept my SVT VR, but the Super Bassman 300 currently fills that slot in the armory......

Mine pretty much lives at about 10 o'clock.
We seem to jive overall on eq, except I generally peak the active ch. eq higher - freq. around 6. I definitely like the passive eq in that 6 range, but take the hi down to around 4 in that case. I like it 8-8-6, 10-10-8 as well, but the 6 range seems to be where the passive eq 'blooms', I guess. Right where it opens up, if you're starting at 0, and seems like a sweet spot.

I have a Fender USA Deluxe P with the active/passive switch so what I like with the switch on and off can be different.

I wasn't crazy about the 8-8-6 in passive on my bass but in active mode on my bass it worked really well. 10-10-8 is pretty nice either way.

I tried the freq higher too on the OD channel and liked it at 7.

Yeah I think we have similar eq taste.

Both my basses are single pup passive. G&L L-1000 strung w/flats, Jack Casady Epiphone strung w/rounds. I immediately fell in love with the G&L/flats with the Bassman rig. But the more I play the Epiphone, which I just got this past May, the more I'm convinced it's absolute magic in combination with the 100T.
