Fender Bassman 300 Pro eBay blues...

Sign in to disble this ad
So, I struck a killer deal on a Fender Bassman 300 pro on eBay and recieved it this morning. Opened the box and go the nice wiff of burnt electronics. I cracked opened the case and saw what you see in the picture below!!!!

This is way you check your orders soon as they drop. I took pics asap and sent them off to the seller. I did get a refund, but I am out of a lot of freight charges!

Such a bummer!

Nah, he actually kinda acted like I set him up lol. Like I had a burnt one lying around or something and swapped the chassis. It was kinda hard when I had pictures of the chassis number with the board shortage. Kinda hard to argue that.

All I know is that thank God I check everything right then and there. I'm very bummed out. I've heard nothing but stellar reviews on these beasts.

But did it work?

I'm speculating but it appears that the original power resistor burnt up
leaving a blackened area on the circuit board. It seems the resistor
was replaced during a repair but the blackened circuit board remained.
There is really not a whole lot one can do about a burnt mark on a
circuit board. If it works, it works. The leftover burn mark is
pretty much irrelevant.

It does suck finding out that the amp had a failure that left a burn mark
but, assuming it works and the price is right, I would use it.

Well, I didn't even want to attempt to try it and see because if there was failure, I didn't want " well you hooked it up and your equipment caused the problem".

It could have been a repair, but just didn't want to risk it. The burnt smell was very strong out of the box so I rather just get my money back and be square on it.

He said he was the original owner, so I think he would have told me there was some type of repair done when I emailed him.

However, he agreed to the return tho
