RMS versus peak is usually discussed in terms of power handling, not power output. You'd say your speaker cab could handle 400 watts RMS, 800 peak, and even that isn't telling you much. Amplifiers are usually rated for their RMS output so an advertisement saying the fender rumble 150 puts out 150 watts would be accurately portraying that amp's maximum power output in a musical situation. I say usually because from time to time you'll see something like
this which has been noted by the experts here on TB as being rated using peak instead of RMS and claiming wattages nearly impossible to achieve and maintain using standard operating
voltages.
