Fender BXR 4x10 CAb??

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys, I'm new to talk bass and just picked up my first cab from trading an old beat up mexi tele.... only problem is, I'm having a real hard time finding any info other than specs and power on the cab. I know its an 8 ohm cab and 300 watts continuous, but what I'm really wondering is the quality or should i say .. is it an entry level or decent quality cab? I'm new to the rig game and the guy I got it from says he really doesn't know anything about it.. so anyone heard one of these cabs played or maybe played through one? every time I did a search I only came up with reviews or info on the BXR combo stuff. Any info would help.

Just ordered a GK MB500 mini head and my buddy is selling me his ampeg 410 hlf this week if my findings aren't too good.

The BXR series was Fender's top of the line back in the 80's. There are much better cabs available now, but for what it is, if it's good shape, it's a good solid 4x10. I had the Spectrum back in the day, same series, but 2x10 + an 18. Heavy, and good for it's time, but like many things, there have been improvements over the years.

its a keeper

cool! thanks for that.. I wasn't too sure but figured since it was a fender I would give it a shot. I think I'm going to be keeping this around as my in home practice cab since I just bought the ampeg 410hlf as my main cab. The GK MB500 head I ordered will push the ampeg to its full potential at 500 watts and since the fender is an 8 ohm cab... the gk will only give it 350... Any idea if that extra 50 watts will hurt the fender cab? sorry for the questions.. I am a noobie in the technical department of the game.

Use your ears. The cab will tell you if your pushing it too hard. (farting, distorting)
