How exactly do you go about yanking the amplifier part out of a Super Twin, and what hardware is needed to put it in a head box ? Any mods, electrical or otherwise need to be done? I see empty Fender Showman head boxes frequently on Ebay. Is this a good fit ?

I think you'll need a Showman-sized box (I'm rolling my own right now). No mods required - just make sure the components are all stable (old caps, trannies, etc.). |

So, is the " head " screwed in from the top of the box ?

Looks nice, although I don't know what's up with going with 5 power tubes? Also, what do I do with the ampless cab ?

Did you buy it?

Used with 2 (3015 modded) PF115 cabs. Lovely sound. Ran a line from the "recording/line out" to a Radial JDI to the desk. Excellent out front of house sound.
I think mine's in a "Showman" head case, but ain't sure sorry.
Sorry for cruddy image

With only 4 of 6 tubes in, it sounds great through an Ampeg 15 cab that I dropped a 4 ohm speaker into. Seemingly voiced deeper than my '71 V4B and '73 SVT. Have a headcase on order through Mojotone (Purple Elephant tolex w/black grille). Regarding tubes, I've been impressed w/matching NOS for my Ampegs, thinking o going the same route with the Super Twin. Who is running what in theirs? Is a matched sextet necessary?
So far I'm loving it. Thanks JohnK for turning me on to it. |

No problem, I wound up getting a mint Music Man HD 150 amp head, which I'm really digging. What did you do with the cab ? I noticed a guy has been trying to sell a " headless " Super Twin cab for months now on Ebay; nobody is bidding on it. That was my dilemma: what to do with the cab.

I'll try to offload the cab cheap, or maybe trade it for something. Got it for $375 shipped so if I can get a buck fifty or so for the cab cool, if not it's ok. |

Go find an old beater in good electrical shape if you want to destroy something. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
