Fender TB-600 - Not much love?

Sign in to disble this ad
Not finding many reviews on the TB-600 online. Came across a posting here on TB where seemed like just one person had actually used it and liked it a lot.

I watched a youtube video and from what I can tell, seems like a nice amp.

Can anyone chime in on this baby? I'm considering either that, or an SVT7PRO to used interchangeably with either an NV215 for bigger gigs or with an HT115 for smaller deals.

Not finding any used, so I need to do my homework.

Advice? I play fingerstyle "thick" and don't slap. Sort of 70's rock/funk tone.

I used a TB1200 on a back-line rental a couple of times and it was awesome.. Its heavy though.. but it sounded very nice , full punchy and a lot like a full tube amp.. It can do very clean or get as dirty as you wish.. I think it is one of the best amps that Fender has ever made.. The TB1200 is super loud too.. A friend uses the TB600 and has never had an issue..
Which brings me to the SVT7 of which i have read there are issues.. There is a thread somewhere ion TB about it...

But if you dig the easy and simplicity of the SVT7 and ampeg vibe, there is another amp out now.
The Genz Benz Streamliner SL900.
It has the ease of an ampeg interface ,with the selectable Mid knob , baxandall EQ, one of the finest DI ( i believe it is a tube DI out ) 3 tubes in the preamp 900 watts at 4 ohms. and can be as clean as you wish or it can get dirty.. Depending on how you set your gain knobs.
I was an Ampeg endorser for 20+ years gigging their stuff all over the planet... and this Genz SL900 will really sit nice with people that like the Ampeg vibe and layout.

The TB600 is a great amp.. but if you want lightweight loud big sounding amp try the Streamliner900 before you make your purchase.

Awesome reply, thanks! I have used Ampegs (3pro, 6pro, SVT, and B100r), and I really do like the simplicity and tone.

I'll definitely take a look at that Streamliner 900, which is actually flashing in my face right now (banner).. lol

Thanks again.

The TB600 (or TB1200) is definitely an excellent amp. They are well-made, and nicely laid out. If you like the TBP-1 preamp, you'll like the TB600/1200, as it is the same preamp layout. The power supply and output section (in the TB1200, at least) appear to be the same as those in my 800 Pro, and I flat-out love that head.

That being said, the SVT-7Pro is a very nice head (now that they have the bugs worked out and changed the limiter a bit). It's not the smallest head, but it's reasonably light, powerful, and has a nice feature set.

You might also consider a Hartke LH500 or LH1000. These also feature the Fender tone stack, and though they are a bit simple as far as layout/features go, they are inexpensive, seem to be durable, and sound great. Will Lee is still rocking his LH1000/HyDrive rig (and has been for over a year), and he's pretty picky about his amplification options.

As Kirk pointed out, the Genz-Benz Streamliner 900 is probably as close as you are going to get to this tone in a lightweight "micro" head.

I love my TB-600. I use mine with an Orange 410/115 stack and it puts out fat, tubey rawk tone. The overdrive channel does the Crazy Horse tone to a T. The weight is thirty-two pounds, which is more than manageable in a Gator rack bag. I would imagine it would be monstrous through a NV215!

Thanks again for the replies and suggestions. I'm very unfamiliar with Fender amps and have actually never played through one.
