Fender Tone Stack w/G&L MFDs?

Sign in to disble this ad
As with most people, most of my EQing for my G&Ls tends toward cutting, rather than boosting. A regular active tone control with fixed frequency set points doesn't always do the trick. A good fully parametric EQ would be great, but I'm curious if a Fender Tone Stack wouldn't get the job done in a really pleasing way?

Something like an Alembic FB-2 or Kern IP-777?

Yes, I realize that the L-series basses essentially have a "tone stack" in them, but I prefer to unload the pickups and move the tone control off-board. My main fretted L2500 has been retrofitted with independent coil-selector switches and volume controls for each pickup, and the preamp removed. My fretless will get the same treatment at some point.

Or should I just get a good studio-grade parametric EQ? That's been my plan for a long time - to use with my fretless Rick Turner Electroline 5 (another bass that requires mostly cut).
