After 5 months, I finally got to play my bass from back home. My grandpa came and visited me a Keesler AFB, Miss., where I'm going to school, and he brought my bass with him. Man it felt great to play!

Anyway, I don't have an amp down here to play on in my dorm. Anybody have any good suggestions for a small amp?

Ibanez Promethian 1x10 combo. It's the size of a practice amp but 500 watts so you could add an extension cab & gig with it down the road.

For less than 50 bucks, you could get a nice headphone amp. My bass Pokit-Rokit was $30, including a decent set of phones. Nice sound for the money.

Thanks, I think I'll look into the headphone amps, they seem to be good for my paygrade!

Got any calluses left after 5 months?

I always need to build up the ones on my right hand index and middle fingers if I go for a while.

My calluses were gone! I was thrilled that i still remembered a lot of music, though. As for my fingers, it is day one all over again.

Are you looking for an amp to gig with?

If not and you're just going to practice in your dorm, I'd go for the Tascam MP-BT1...and a good set of headphones.

I play in the base's church band, and they have an amp there. Headphone amp it is!

Korg Ampworks are fun and cheap with a whole bunch of modeling options for amps and effects. They work with headphones.
I went to air traffic control school at Keesler. It was the "Biloxi Blues" for me. I hope you're enjoying yourself.
What AFSC are you there for?

A cheap micro mixer will do everything that you need. They can be picked up for sround $40 and you can play an Ipod or computer through the unit too.

I bought a Tascam Bass Trainer but found it awkward to use. It just acts as a headphone driver now and I do all my pitch changing and slowing down via my Mac.
