| First gig with PH 212

So, I bought an as-new PH 212 from a local music store back in the winter, which turned out to have a blown driver. Mesa sent a new driver, and the store swapped it out. I was out of the country for a few months, and only returned recently. I took the 212 to the rehearsal space and first impressions were very positive: lots of girth, but I could dial in an aggressive 'mids-forward' sound, in conjunction with an Epifani PS 210 and a Genz GBE 750. A few rehearsals went by and I continued my love affair, as did the band mates. We played a show this evening, with 4 other bands. The gig was at a largish local club, which we have played at several times in the past. This particular club is noted for having high volume shows, and an expansive stage, where I usually sound like mud (the place is mostly home to a number of punk rock bands, and consequently, good sound doesn't seem to be a key priority). Not tonight, though. I was using my 5-string walnut/wenge Cirrus, and my sound on stage was the clearest and most authoritative I have ever had the pleasure of hearing. Bear in mind that I have previously never had a compliment on my tone in this club, but tonight I had several. I don't know how well the PH 212 would go over on a soft jazz gig, but for a burly metal show, it works a treat. I want another one. |
