First thing to check on a blown gk800rb ?

I'm wondering what would be the most basic things to check on first and the simplest repairs generally needed when a GK 800rb amp head stops working. All I know is that I was using it with the effects loop handling an ADA preamp so the 800rb was working as the power amp. After that when I tried to use the 800 all by itself it doesn't work now. It powers on but no sound.

I really don't think you're an idiot, but since you are requesting the simplest and first things to check; I would:

Make sure the volume on your bass is up. We've all done it.

Check and make sure all your cables are plugged into the right hole. Silly I know, but I cross my cables all the time with my pedals. We've all done this too.

Check to make sure the conections in your cable jacks haven't come loose. Wiggle the cable and listen for intermediate sound and crackle. Cables wear out.

Is your bass active? If so, make sure your battery is good.

Good luck. I hope I didn't offend you by the simplicity of my answer, but those are always the first things I check and normally one or more are the reason for no sound.

it might sound crazy, but try cleaning the effects send and return jacks.

Does it still work as a power amp?

I've never used an 800RB but my 400RB has a FUSE. Does yours, and did you check it? A few years ago my 400 blew a fuse (during a gig) and I immediatedly used my DI to go to the PA as a backup to get through the gig. Later, at home, I replaced the fuse on the GK and it's never given me a problem since.

Good luck - hope you get it fixed.

Hi.

+1 on the fuse(s).

+1 also for the FX loop problem.

Any troubleshooting deeper than that is best to be left to a tech.

Regards
Sam
