i have a ashdown five fiffteen combo right now and i was looking into getting a ampeg vr stack with 2x10 but i figured if i can just add a 2x10 cab to my 15 it would get the sound im looking for and just wanted to know if anyone has done it before and how it sounds

As been mentioned here a million times on TB, mixing cabs with different sized and type drivers is a real crap shoot. Best to either try another 15, or scrap the combo for a 4x10 cab and amp.

Bigger spkrs don't necessarily go deeper, but really, the best match for for 15" combo is, another matching 15.

Just got the Five Fifteen, and I really like the combo for what it is and the sound I get.

The External Speaker jack will defeat the internal speaker. So if you picked up the 2x10" Ampeg cabinet (or one of the Ashdowns) and plugged it in, it would get the 100w from the internal amp, and nothing would come out of the internal 15".

If you like the Ashdown, go out and pickup another Five Fifteen, get an ABY box and you can run your bass into both simultaneously for a 200w 2x15 stack. Right now you could probably get everything you need from Musicians friend for about $300 ($249 for the old cosmetic 5:15 model, $40 for a decent ABY). Then look to get a decent DI box to send your bass for FOH support.

If that's the case, internal spkr disconnected when you use another cab, then it makes no sense to get another cab for that amp. A 2nd amp, or just a bigger rig will be the better option.
