fixing buzz in new poratflex cab.

Sign in to disble this ad
I just purchased a new ampeg portaflex pf115 cab. I love the cab. and it sounds great but at louder volumes i was getting a buzz on lower notes and traced it down to the top not securing tight enough. I put pressure on the top while playing a note and it stopped. I noticed the clamps dont tighten overly tight on the top and this is the problem. I was wondering if anyone else had had this problem and how they fixed it? I thought of 2 things that might work but wanted to hear your ideas first. I thought i could bend more of a curve into the clasping bands which might help tighten them or i could use a little heavier weather stripping where it seals. Taking it back to the store i got it from is not an option as I am the repairman for them anyways. A slight bit more tension on the clasps would fix the problem just fine. Thanks in advance.

eoither of the two methods that you mentioned should be fine. unless you can find some really good stiff weatherstripping (like the stuff used for jazz bass pickup loading) i think i would just massage the clamps.

Contact the maker. There may be a way of adjusting those clamps.
