Flite Sound 1x15 speaker replacement

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Flite sound 1x15 4 ohm cabinet that I have teamed up with an older Hartke 3500. It sounds great, but the speaker could use replacing. The led in the cabinet is lighting up inside and the speaker is distorting.
Any recommendations as to what I could swap in there?
Eminence? I don't think I need a lightweight speaker, just a decently powerful one.
Also, might anyone have a direct line to Flite sound?
Their website isn't helpful at all.
Thanks

What makes you think it's the 15? Does it have a tweeter? The light inside should be the lightbulb protection for a tweeter. It means you're sending too much power or an extraordinary amount of highend content or distortion.

If you mean an led on the amp lighting up, you're clipping the amp and need to turn down.

I have a Flite 4ohm 1x15. There's no light in it, so I'm assuming Will33 is right. Good luck contacting Flite. They're in and out of existence. They were never run particularly well. I still use their cabs though! That 1x15 may not be the best sounding cab ever, but it weighs almost NOTHING, which is a high priority for me.

It was bought used and the speaker sounds weak.
That mid range frequency knob in the front that goes from -2 to +2 decibels.
Upon searching, there really isn't much info out there on these! Is the company gone/ kaput?
I just emailed flite@flitesound and am waiting to see if I get a response.

Thank you!

Honestly with the port that sized I would be shocked for it to sound anything but weak Any appreciable bass will make that tiny port chuff like crazy.

You say "led in the cab is lighting up". Assuming there isn't a bulb fuse on the mid (shouldn't be) it's possible the l-pad is burning up. That would explain distorted, static sound. Also possible some crossover parts are failing and letting low frequency get to the mid driver. Also would make distortion and eventually blow it.

I'm assuming there your "light" might be a hot lpad or a short somewhere, not exactly a light bulb.

Hey rpsands, I see you are here too
wow though.. this is getting scarier by the response!
I'll see if I can contact someone at the company. If something is heating up and glowing, wouldn't I smell something burning/see smoke? Goodness..
I'll get back to this thread. Thanks

I would just suspect the lpad first because they have to be pretty beefy to use on a mid, If this is any kind of affordable or budget design, corners get cut somewhere. Unfortunately crossover design is one of those things that gets cut.
