Floor wedge type cab???

Sign in to disble this ad
SWR & Eden made them "back in the day" so to speak.
Anyone else make them??
Or anyone have any luck with using floor monitors for just bass off their head?

I've used a killer L-Acoustics 115 wedge (L-Acoustics is on par with Meyer) ran directly off my amp in the past.
Flat out insanly good sounding. The best IMO I EVER heard regardless of style of cab.
Just BIG $$$$$$$

I have nothing to add but a bump.

I am interested in this as well and have often wondered what LDS could come up with adapting their 2 way-with-mids designs to a wedge or trapezoidal cab.

Every one of the Plastic PA speakers can lay on it's side to use as a monitor. I woudn't give Plastic a bad review here, the cabinets are designed with adequate bracing. And good ones do add acoustic batting. Name brands are better than most would give them credit for. And the top brands do have full measurements available.

Like any wedge they can be awkward to load and carry. They don't sit well on a regular dolly. The good news is they are extremely light.

Eden used to make their D210MBX - basically a D210XLT in a floor wedge. They're discontinued, but some stores still have them, and you can also find them used.

Those were pretty nice.
I was an Eden endorsee for a while and couldn't get them.
They "offered" them, but only on a special order, and even then it was hard to get one.
They wanted to build in batches, which I understand, not just one here and there.
I just was never lucky enough to get in on them.

Nope, that's their only "wedge" style cab.

i built one. i loaded it with a 1505 black widow; full-range, no tweeter. it sounds like a too-small cabinet, because it is--- i had to make compromises for size concerns. it is great for smaller applications where the bass is going through the FOH. i can cut some of the woof that comes from the smaller cab, and still get the thunder from the subs. it really does sound great in that role. i put it right beside my other wedge, and i can hear everything wonderfully, even at lower monitoring levels. as a stand-alone cab, though, it leaves a little to be desired, though it was never intended to be used that way. no matter the shape of the cab, the rules of design still apply! a large enough wedge cab would be huge, and that would render the thing impractical for me.

Yeah, I looked into maybe building my own, but just don't have the time right now.
I know, it's really only a few hours. But I have a ton of tunes to learn this holiday season and would like to fall into something kinda soon.

A buddy of mine had the BagEnd s15X-D and had these little legs that would prop it back (like a Fender Twin has actually) and it sounded wonderful.

If I could find a S15X-D I would just do that, but none are around.

Just about any 15" monitor with it's tweeter disconnected and the crossover bypassed would be OK at reasonable volumes - maybe find one used with the tweeter blown ? There are quite a few bands going ampless these days and they just use the regular monitors to hear what they are playing.

Avatar makes them for guitarists, maybe they'll do one for bass?

Or you could just push the Easy button and get something like this for a cab you already own

http://cgi.ebay.com/Tilting-Floor-Am...item3effce3770

It works great for small cabs.

Yeah, but a 410 in front of you might look a little silly.....

I used to have a Mesa Diesel 115 Wedge. Never really used it a ton so I sold it, but kinda wish I still had it!
I've always kept an eye out for the Edens. I may snag one if I get a chance in the future.
