Found an Ampeg v4 needing a transformer very cheap..

How much (ROUGH ballpark) could I maybe spend on the transformer (if in fact it is just the transformer) ? And are the possible to source easily enough?

It needs tubes also but that is a much easier to find commodity..

How much is the v4? I Imagine a tech could replace it easily if you didn't want to do it yourself.

About $150.00 and transformer is about $200.00 (that is of course if that IS the only issue)..

YES, that is where I found it..

Might also need a cap job. That could run about $200 if you pay someone to do it. But still worth it if you like the amp.

Schematics are available at http://www.ampegv4.com/

The fliptiops product is a good one, made by Heyboer. You asked about a transformer, there is the power transformer and the output transformer. Order the correct one. Unless the transformer is missing, be sure that you really need a new one.

If you can get the amp cheap, it's worth it to just drop it off with a tech and have them order what is needed. A cap job on a V4 should be about $100-150, I think I paid like $120ish when I had mine done. But the tech can do all the repairs and clean up and be sure it needs a transformer before you go ordering one.

Transformer failures on V4's are pretty rare.

What tubes did these use on the power side, 6l6gc's?

B-string 03-18-2013 04:20 PM

Usually 7027A's but 6L6gc's will work so long as they are good quality. Also KT66 and 5881's
