Frequency and clipping

Sign in to disble this ad
Just got back from the studio, i think ive moved a knob slightly when unzipping my mark bass bag, everything sounds great untill i use the 12th fret on the E string, it makes the speakers fart and the clip light comes on, even if i take the volume down a bit it still happens, thats the only fret it does it on all others are fine, is this a frequency thing? if so any of you freq gods know a quick fix?

You should turn knobs, turn them often, so you know what they do.

It sounds more like your neck need adjusting.

so..just to get the picture clear for me..you recorded and now at home it sounds bad of after the studio session, at home, the bass sounds bad ?

in either case, around the 12th fret is a place with lots of harmonics and depending on the bass and plucking position it can cause 'swelling' (for the lack of a better term) of the sound and may lead your amp into clipping. (i get this on the 13th fret)

set your amp flat and start from there.
