"full range" vs "Bi-Amp" speakon cables

Sign in to disble this ad
I guess I'm new to speakon connectors. i was at a site selling "full range" , "Bi amp", and then 8 conductor end speakon cables (which were the most expensive)

Im familiar with the function of Bi amping / full range but havent heard of speakon cables with different purposes....

any help?

There are basic speakon cables with ony 2 conductors and transmit one signal. Although the original speakon was designed to have 4 conductors and use all four connectors to transmit 2 sets of signals (highs and lows).

The 8 conductor ones are something I've only saw recently, and those are thick as hell and I don't think they work on standard speakon jacks.

There aren't any. Some amp manufacturers have bastardized the Speakon concept with different schemes, frankly because they're too cheap to use enough jacks, but those aren't an industry standard and require that you re-wire standard Speakon cables for the application.

They've been around nearly as long as the 4-poles. They are a whole different fit, for serious PA use.
