Fuse Replacement in AG 500SC

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello,

I claim some ignorance on this one when I ask: Does the replacement fuse have to have the same amperage and voltage rating as the original fuse ? The owner's manual does not mention fuse type and Aguilar has not answered my email question yet. The original fuse was a 7 amp 125 volt. Radio Shack has a 5 amp 125 volt fuse - will that one blow sooner than the 7 amp fuse ? Is there a risk that the Radio Shack fuse would damage the amp ?

Thank You

From what I know, if your amp needs 6A to run normally, then a 5A is more likely to blow. If your amp will ever go that high? I don't know.

The amp rating is the cutoff point at which the fuse should blow if the current gets that high. (Ampere is a unit of electrical current.)

You have not filled out your profile so none of us knows where you live on this small planet. If you are in North America a 125V fuse rating is fine as is 250V. In countries running 220V on up you'll need the 250V version.

The current rating is vitally important for protection of your amplifier when things go wrong. If you go lower than the recommended value the fuse could blow during normal operation causing you inconvenience. The actual value needed should be printed by the fuse holder on the back panel.

Blow blow is important.

It's not as much fun as it sounds.
