"Fuzzy" amp help???

Sign in to disble this ad
My setup is a Peavey Mark VIII head, and a carvin 410 cabinet. When I hit the high notes while playing, it sounds like my amp is almost breathing. Its really fuzzy sounding and gross, and I don't think its because of my EQ settings. Any one have a clue why Im getting this effect???

Couple of possibilities come to mind...
The tweeter or cones on the cab might be damaged. Not badly enough to stop working or sound utterly blown, but enough to cause the fuzzy sound you describe on the high notes. Or it could be some dirt/crud in the jacks or pots. To find out if it's either of these two options, you'd clean all the jacks and pots with a good contact cleaner, and you'd try your amp with somebody else's speaker cab.
