I think I have finally found a less expensive alternative to a Markbass CMD 121P. I actually got to a/b a MB 210 this evening at my local GC alongside a CMD 121P. It was rated at 500w and the Markbass was 400w. Being a 2x10 combo, it is a bit taller and four pounds heavier than the Markbass, but I can live with that. I love that it is a 2x10, that means not extension cab for me. I know most prefer a rig, but I love combos for their compactness and ease of transport.
The MB210 is plenty loud to my ears, and the sound is extremely clear. It made my TL-5 sound wonderful. It's bass sound is pretty scooped to my ears. When I was playing blues and walking basslines with the rear pickup, it sounded great, but the Markbass was warmer flat. Turning down the treble and boosting the bass increased the warmth, but I believe the MB 210 is just a more "modern" sounding amp than the Markbass.
All in all, I think it is a killer combo for $500, and I am looking forward to picking one up later this month!
