Yes, if you want to use the tweeter, you have to run it full range. Correct.
HOWEVER...
These GK amps have a lot of growl and snarl along with a pretty strong high end, so if you do run with the tweeter off and feeding full range only to the 12's (by putting the cabs in the biamp setting), it's actually a very cool sound. Note that leaving them in full range but turning the tweeter attenuator all the way down does NOT result in full range going to the 12's. Not that that's bad, but it's just even a warmer sound (actually too warm for me, but that's just my pref).
I say try BOTH.
In my case, I do prefer the horns on, especially with the warmer Fusion (compared to the 800), but still it is a very good sound and a completely viable option.
FWIW. |

I'd have to test this, but I don't think the attenuator does anything in biamp mode since the biamp heads have a level control for the high end amp? It's been a while since I've tried this, admittedly. |

I am going to get one soon. although my passive jazz with fralin pups in is has a great 70s sound with the mb fusion....its kinda limiting. I also have flatwound strings.....the only tone you can really get out of it is slightly dirty with growl and flat....or really dirty with growl and flat....cant really get a clean tone at all. should I get an active bass to get more tone? with rounds?

But then you need to deal with batteries and somewhat more artificial bass sound. I have both, both kinds of basses are good to have. And the longer I have played, the more I realize a large part of the sound comes from the finger and the brain.
Anyway, if you are looking at active basses I would recommend a EBMM Bongo if you have resources and an Ibanez ATK in case you don't. |

| | | | Ive been looking into buying a new rig, most likely GK. would you guys reccomend the combos 1x15 or 2x12, or buying cabs, and head sperately? The big difference ive seen is obviously price and the combos have less power than seperate head/cab (assuming head is trong enough). Any opinions? | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
