Hi,
I'm wondering if the A channel in the 2001RB is the same as the preamp in the 1001RB II? Does either sound closer to the 800RB?

Hi Andrew!
On the GK 2001rb head, channel 1 is the distortion channel - it's foot-switchable, and sounds pretty good.
Channel 2 is the clean channel, and is the same circutry as on the 1001rb II, 700rb II and 400rb II.
The 800rb circut is a little different than the new rb bass heads, but with only 300w RMS power in the main amp (plus 100 in the high-range amp) and being 3 rack-spaces large, your much better off getting the full 700w RMS out of 2 rack spaces with the 1001rb II.
I have a 2001rb, and I'd only really reccomend it to players who need to run rigs with a LOT of power at gigs - I'm talking in the 4-cabinet range rigs. Anything less is pretty much overkill - the 1001rb II will do any gig up to stadium venues without breaking a sweat!
All the best with your music!
JOHN.

Agreed 100% with all of the above - I gig a 700rb-II, and thru a good cab(610, 810, 215) it's more than loud enough for any gig I'll ever play - and I typically play in LOUD modern rock/metal bands... I truly couldn't imagine ever needing a 2001rb - I've already played some large outdoor shows with my current rig, and didn't even need to push it for them...
