I just got my new Sweetwater Music catalog, and they list the "new" GK 400RB IV.

I guess GK brought it back out?? Any differences?

I find it hard to believe that GK would bring the 400RB back, especially so quickly.

I spoke to Brian Clark this morning and he said they would be in full production and that this would not be a limited production. He said that they should be availabe around mid November of this year.

I've got an 80's version that's been a real workhorse....and it still sounds great...
I thought the Backline 600 pretty much took the place of the 400rb
don't they share the same power amp section? Any one know of any other similarities or differences?

Yep! My main rig is a 400 RB III. It is so versatile. I've used it with my acoustic bass on TV, and just recently played it at the Big BIG Fresno fair!

PS. If I were going to upgrade the 2 X 10 speakers (currently the OEM that came with the combo) what would be recommended?

PPS. I think I'm singing the "Ooh's" and Aah's" on Knocking On Heavens Door here!

Awesome news for me! I'm back to playing with a drummer that has a really really really soft touch. It's tough to get all the grunt I need out of the 700rbII at such low volumes.

I think you could get some S2010s to work well in there. You will probably have to adjust that port length. The price increase has stopped me from dropping replacement speakers into old cabinets though. I have been buying new cabs since the larger manufactures haven't really raised neo new cab prices yet. Since you are attached to that combo, I feel your pain. I had 2 of them...

In comparison to the Backline 600 how does the volume compare. At 280 watts some have stated that the 400RB IV sounds a little louder than the Backline 600, and that it is catergorized as a little more professional grade amp. Any one care to share.

I love my 400RB! It's an old one and one of the first amps I ever used that sounded great from the get-go!

$349 is a great price for a great head.

These used to be $500-600, correct?

I'm sure RAG will cut me off at the knees if I am incorrect?
The 400RB IV, BL600 share the same power amp design. The preamps are very different between them though.

I too could be wrong, but I think with the exception of the OD channel on the 600, and the string voicing and presence on the 400, they are the same.

Same or not, I still want the 400rbIV, and should have bought one before they stopped. I had rehearsal last night with my new band, and the drummer has a wonderfully light touch. I'm not complaining though...... It's awesome being able to hear everything clearly at rehearsal, and I think the band will all the better for it. But man, I'm not firmly set in the "sweet spot" for the 700rbII and neo112. I need the lower wattage of the 400 so that I can sit firmly in "growl" state. I can't wait for it!

I thought I remembered reading here or somewhere, that the power amp sections between the Backlines and the RB's were the same without the bi-amping features.

FYI: Looks like the backline 600 has been discontinued. Does anyone know if this new run of RB400s will produced in the US or China? I'm wondering due to the lower price.
