Gallien-Krueger 4x10 cabs

Sign in to disble this ad
I just recently purchased a 1001rbii and am trying to find a cab setup to match it. I have a few questions about the GK 4x10's.

Do only the Neo 410 and the RBH support the biamp system? Or do also the MBE and MBX?

I went into Guitar center to test out these cabs, and I felt like I wasn't using the biamp correctly. The people at GC are idiots and don't even know what biamp-ing is, so they were no help. Some other customer helped me hook it up. When I was trying to biamp with the Neo I would turn the tweeter knob all the way up and down and it didn't sound like anything was happening. I figured I didn't hook it up correctly (I think I didn't have the right cable). Could some one clarify how to correctly hook it up, what cable I need?

Even more confusing, to me the MBX sound better than the Neo's, but I think this might have been because I was using the "full range" instead of the biamp. The MBX sounded cleaner.

Can any one recommend certain GK 4x10's over others? The biamp is a pretty sick feature correct? At my local guitar center there is an MBX, and a used Neo for the price of an MBX. Haven't played a RBH or an MBE, but the RBH seems out of my price range. I would also like to add a 1x15 in the near future.

Thanks, sorry for any breach of post etiquette (I searched a good amount). Any advice pertaining to the situation would be appreciated.

Don't add a 15. Add another 410. Not sure about the other cabs you mentioned, but I know for a fact that neo and rbh have the biamp ability. To engage the biamp you need to be running a 4 pin speakon cable from the head to the cab and make sure that the switch on the back of the cab is set to biamp and not full range. Also, turning the tweeter knob all the way up just adds a high end pop. You aren't going to hear a difference if you're just playing lower notes and not getting any of those highs out there.

The biamp system comes into it's own when Gk amps are being pushed Into growly GIVE territory by keeping the tweeter clean.
