Hey everybody, I purchased a GK 700rbii a little while back and am looking into cabs now. I think I have narrowed it down to 2 cabs. The GK 4x10 Neo @ 8ohms or the Avatar 4x10 at 8ohms. What are your guys opinions and such on these 2 cabs. Any suggestions which would go better and the different sounds they give. Any input is appreciated. I don't really understand the whole bi-amp business either. |

As far as the "bi-amp" goes, on the 700rb it is really only used to controll the tweeter in GK brand cabinets and with GK brand Speakon cables. It's designed so that you can dial in some growl or overdrive to the speakers and keep the signal to the tweeter clean. But since I hate tweeters, I never used mine in the bi-mode, I turned it all the way down and run the cab full range.

GK + Avatar= great combination.

Playing at higher volumes, I really appreciated the ability to drive the cones a bit harder, but keep the tweeter from getting harsh. So for my personal use, I prefer to use GK cabs with my GK heads. Their cabs sound great, and are very reasonably priced, IMHO.
That being said, I have heard very good things about Avatar cabs, but I have not tried them, myself.

I play mine through a Goliath III and have no complaints. It's an ace cab, great lows and mids.

You really have to listen to a few to narrow down the field. What cabinets to you presently like?

The Avatar cabs are really made well and look great. If I was only going to have one cab I would get the 4x10. I would think the 2x12 is plenty for most any gig but it is nice to have plenty of headroom so I got a second one.

Yeah, I won't be able to play either of these cabs before I make my purchase, so I'm going off what you fellas say. I know they both have good reputations and won't disappoint me. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
