Gallien Krueger 700RB II

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everyone!

I'm getting this amp next week (NAD yaay).
How does this thing work with an Ampeg 810E cab?
I know there's some tweeter stuff going on with GK amps, but my Ampeg doesn't have a tweeter, do I have to plug it in differently? Or do I just use jack input in GK + speakon in Ampeg?
Are there dangers of frying/blowing stuff?

Also, what exactly is the difference between 700RB and 700RB II? I heard they really improved on RB II, but don't know what exactly.

Use the 1/4" outs and turn down the tweeter volume. Make sure the woofer Hi-cut button is in the off (out) position.

The 700rb-II works really well with an SVT810e - I've gigged that combination quite a few times... You can still use a normal 2 conducter speakon cable and be just fine, or you can use the 1/4" jacks...

the -II series is more powerful, and has a much better preamp section than the earlier 700rb's - they're also more reliable...

Ok, so I take it I'm not allowed to use the speakon output?
Alright, woofer hi-cut off. What about Tweeter hi-cut? Also off?

The "tweeter stuff" only works when using GK cabs

I think you can just connect speakon/speakon or speakon/jack. I believe the bi-amp function of the amp only works with a certain wire?

From the manual:

3) Speakon Outputs: High current twist-lock Speakon
output connectors. Pins 1+ and 1- send a fullrange
signal from the Main (Woofer) amplifier. Pins 2+ and
2- send a signal 5kHz and above from the Tweeter
amplifier. Use a four-conductor Speakon cable when
connected to a GK Horn Bi-Amp compatible speaker
cabinet. Use a standard two-conductor Speakon cable
when connected to a non-GK cabinet or if you’re using
a Speakon to ¼” adapter. See Horn Bi-Amp System
on page 8 for more information.

You can safely connect your amp and cabinet via a two-conductor speakon cable or two-conductor speakon/jack. The bi-amp stuff only works via a four-conductor cable with ONLY GK cabinets.

Yeah that's what I thought, but can you damage the amp or cabs who aren't GK because of that?

You can use a speakon cable but make sure it's only a 2 conductor cable a nd NOT a 4 conducter cable.....

My 1001RB II sounds great through my Ampeg 810E.....
