Gallien Krueger 700rb Problems

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a GK 700rb that is having some issues.

It is connected to a GK BLX410 cab and when I try to put an input signal through it, I hear a crackle in the cab and then the amp cuts out!

I have recently had to disconnect one of the cones in my cab, due to it blowing and was wondering if it could just be a case that I'm putting to much output through and it is cutting out for safety (the blue light on the front goes from blue to red and then back to blue again)

Just looking for someone to confirm my suspicions, or advise if it could be something else.

Thanks

-Mac

Stop using that cab until you get all four drivers working again. At this point you're using a horribly mistuned cab because the dead/disconnected driver is acting as a passive radiator, and the whole cab is presenting God only knows what sort of complex load impedance to the amp.

+1

See if the amp still does that when connected to a different, known to be good, speaker cabinet. It might be going into protect mode due to your funky wiring in your cab.

Thanks for the support... I had a feeling that, the mentioned would be the case.

Time to get the bank card out again... I may upgrade the cab to 200w drivers instead of the standard 100w ones.

Thanks again!

The wattage rating doesn't mean much, it's the excursion that matters. Also just throwing any old set of whatever watt speakers in there would at best be a crapshoot as far as the resulting sound. Unless GK has some upgrades for use in that cab.
