Does it work? Yes.

Does it work well? Depends on what you're looking for. It doesn't offer much protection, but I can pack it in there with my tuner, cables, and power cables/supplies just fine. I can strap the amp on my back, carry my bass in one hand, and lug my Ampeg 4x8 in the other...

Although, lately, I've been using a Micro VR for rehearsals, and that's much easier to lug around, as is the matching 210 cabinet.

I have an '86 800rb and I can't get rack ears for it any more because they are made differently to newer models.
To protect it while I'm on the road, I got an aluminium flight case from cases.com.au for around the $100AUSD mark. There is plenty of removable, shapeable foam with this case too, so i can mould it to keep the head firmly in place without moving around.
After a few trips with the amp thrown in the gear truck (yes thrown-roadies) and opening the case to find she's not moved at all, I feel really happy with the purchase and know the 800rb will be safe.
I'd always reccommend a road-case (NOT plastic), but if you can't get/use one, try this kind of suitcase-style flight case.
