Gallien Krueger Cabs - Neo vs SBX

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys,

I have a GK 4x10 SBX cab (one of the older sealed cabs from GK). I am fairly happy with it but I was thinking that lighter is always better so I was thinking of changing it out for a neo 4x10 or even a neo 2x12.

The problem is that my local store doesn't stock them. Has any one made comparisons between these cabs?

The 410 is a beast and goes extremely low. The 212 tends to sit better in the mix with more prominent mids than say the 410. That is the general consensus on these cabs.

I have owned both a 410 SBX and a 410 NEO, although I did not have either for more than a few gigs each.

Part of my issue was my head, older 400RB, not enough power maybe to get the tone I was looking for out of these cabs.

I was looking for something different, more balanced, or modern than the old 410B cabs I had (pre tweeter).

Thruth was the older cabs had better grindy mids with that head , only 220W @ 4 ohm.

I thought they were relatively similar sounding, with more focused low end on the sbx, and much more extended low end on the neo.

Since then I have landed a 700RB (more flexible, powerful, and a much bigger sound than the 400RB) and a neo 212. I think it is much more balanced, less drop off in low mids.
btw, since all three have the same tweeter and crossover, they seem to be very capable on the top end, and with the 700RB, it seems to be able to give me what I like to hear.

Thanks for the response guys. I liked the 1x12 neo but I know I need more. I'm still on the fence on whether to get a 2x12 cab or a 4x10 cab but without being able to try them both I'm a bit stuck

Wadge, I own two of the GK Neo 212 cabs. I use them with a GK 1001RB-II (750 watts at 4 ohms, 460 watts at 8 ohms). These are excellent cabs in my opinion. Also, the casters and location of the handles makes it easy to move. My only regret is buying two of them. One alone provides plenty of sound. Two are really no louder and/or clearer than one of these cabs running my GK 1001RB-II head. Happy playing!

I love my 410 sbx+. Any time I try anything different my rig doesn't sound right. I'm running a Mesa 400+ and I'm considering getting another 410 to go along with the one I currently have.
