Just picked up a transition era 800RB (91') with the vertical switch, but with the dual 100 watt speaker jacks and the huge super sturdy feeling pots. I waited years to grab one of these. Can't wait to bring it to practice next week. It will be going against my Mesa Mpulse 600. I want to see what it can do.

You couldn't find a more apples to oranges comparison. Both great amps, and very, very different from each other.

Absolutely. I bought the 800RB to be a backup, but it will be interesting for me to hear it in a band context again. it's been a decade or so since I've had the opportunity.

Try to make less of it if you will, but the 800RB is a milestone in bass amps. I think it was the first amp I used that didn't have to be shoved in a rack!

I hired one from SIR in New York on my first tour of the US with two bi-amped Hartke boxes. Perfect. I later bought another one with an Eden 2x15 cab and knocked out about 90 gigs in three months! Never had an issue.

Band context is really where the 800RB shines. I think you'll be happy with your "back up".

Yep, especially when the M Pulse turns into the backup

I love the tone of the Mpulse, but I wouldn't be averse to dragging the 800RB around as my primary

Man, that 400RB-IV looks nothing like the original.

Discontinue the 800 RB? Just one more indication that GK is heading in the wrong direction. Best sounding , most reliable amp ever made. seen on backlines everywhere for 30 years. Truely groundbreaking when first introduced in the 80's , And still sought after today.

Yep. But not by enough of us. And so it goes.

"Still sought after today"

For sure, if GK were still making money off it, they'd still be selling it.
I think "still sought after today" currently means "for $300, used," unfortunately.

That was my number, and I sought after one for the last few years waiting for the combination of price, condition, and age.

Something just occurred to me: This could definitely replace the Mesa, depending on how things go. The Mesa was very impressive at last practice. But, I could add another 12" speaker for the 100 watt amp with my NX2 212 running at 4ohms for the 300 watt low amp with the GK. Interesting.

Yep the little 100W amp comes in handy for louder gigs and you can run it full range or biamp. Don't sleep on that 100 watts either. In concert it's the 300W amp there shouldn't be anything you can't handle volume-wise. The 800 is one loud and toneful mutha.

I've never had a problem hearing my 800 on a gig, ever. And to my ears, it sounds better/more powerful than any of the new light weight amps I've tried. I'm sad to hear it's been discontinued; I think I'll get a second one for a backup.

Darn it!! I knew I shouldn't read through this thread. Now I'm kinda jonesin' for an 800 RB!! I had my sights set on a MB Fusion 500 or a 1001RB. I just wish the 800RB had speakon inputs.

Due to some issues with the two GK Neo 112's that I just purchased - One wouldn't sit flat and the covering on the other one was kinda messed up (Bubbling up in places) - I returned them and have two GK Neo 212's on the way. I'm picky with new gear - I expect it to be flawless since I'm paying new prices for them.

How would you recommend running a 800RB with two GK Neo 212 cabs? Bi-amp or full range? Do you think the 800 RB would sound good through these cabs?
I may just pick up an 800RB if I can get a nice one for a decent price. The couple that I have seen in the classifieds here have looked like they were dropped out of a two story window.

He's razzing you because you said inputs when they're outputs.
If your new cabs are 8 ohm units just plug them into the Low amp and insert your earplugs.
Will it sound good? That's entirely up to you! Let us know what you think.
