If your new cabs are 8 ohm units just plug them into the Low amp and insert your earplugs.
Will it sound good? That's entirely up to you! Let us know what you think. | Man I've been getting razzed on here a lot lately. Kinda makes me feel like an idiot (which I just may be I guess). Either someone is correcting my spelling , my lack of technical terminology , or trolling my threads. If your going to razz me - please say why so I can correct myself next time. Honestly it's Kinda making me wonder why I spend time here? I may ask a lot of questions , but I'm just trying to learn from people with experience using the gear that I am interested in... I wasted enough money on gear that I wasn't happy with and would like to make this my last gear purchase for a long time to come.

I like the Mesa very much, especially with my new Baer ML112. I bought the '86 800RB in '03 as a back-up and it quickly became my primary, being used first with an Eden 212XLT and then an Aguilar GS212.
Yes, it has a hard wired tonality - and there's nothing wrong with it! I don't play modern, extended range basses so the EQ is more than adequate. All of my basses sound pretty darn good through it.
The real difference I find between the GK and the Mesa is the GK sounds much more immediate in its response. The Mesa sounds great but it's just a touch "softer". This is a trait of the MPulse amps, and it becomes noticeable against the GK.
The GK is also amazingly loud for its 300 watts.
Both these amps get a lot of love for different reasons and are selected for use accordingly.

Hey, whoa, nobody thinks you're stupid, dude--it's just that guys like Chef see stuff like that SO often(so do I)that it's become a sort of sport to see if you can be steered in the right direction with gentle prodding... : D
And I was serious about my "let us know" comment -- it will sound good, to some people and probably not to others -- it's the way of things. I'm sure it'll be great.

I may have taken things out of context and maybe they were just joking around - just how I took it...
Chef has answered many of my questions before and for that I am grateful.

I'm sure that you were just messing with me , but my mood was already fouled by a couple other TBers so I took it to heart more than I should have. For that - I apologize. Thanks again for all of your valuable insight and wisdom of bass gear.

Sorry 'bout that.

| | | Getting back to the point of this thread, I' like to share a few more thoughts about these amps. The 700rb and 1001 rb and the newer 400rbs have options that modern players might expect (demand) : more connectivity, tuner out, mute button. pre -post-volume on the DI , and more.
The 800rb and older 400rbs are much more bare bones. (They have everything you need but not everything you see on modern amps)
The bi-amp feature on the 700 and 1001 is useless unless you have a GK RBH cab ( I don't , but no worries. just use it full range, sounds great.)
The bi- amp feature on the 800 rb is much more useful (but again not really neccessary to get a great sound) The typical biamp set up on an 800Rb is a 4 ohm load on the woofer section ( a single 15 or a 4x10). The high end is 100 watts to an 8 OHM LOAD ( 2x10 8 ohm)
You can set the X-over point, you have seperate volume controls for high and low and a button to switch between full range and bi-amp ( soun ds great either way) |

The Neo Series are bi-ampable; that's what I run. Quote:
