Gallien Krueger MB112 arrived today

I have been away from playing Bass for many years (started in 1987). I just got back into it when a friend asked if I wanted to join him in his acoustic blues rock solo thing. I have one Crate B10 and a B20 with a blown speaker now. I used to have a 100w GK head from the 80's, I don't remember the model #, with a Yamaha S115 cabinet. I lent the head to a buddy 15 years ago who blew his and was going on the road with his band so I said "borrow it and when you are done with your mini tour give it back when you buy a new amp" - I still haven't gotten it back. I sold the Cab a few months ago after coming to the realization I will never see the head again.

Since I needed a new rig with some real wattage, I looked and Hartge, Ampeg and of course GK. I decided on the new MB112. I mentioned this to my wife who took it upon herself to surprise me and order it for Christmas even though it wasn't even out yet.

It arrived today at the door step. Let me tell you, this is one super nice amp! It is punchy, with deep lows, and crisp mids and highs if you slap. I don't but I had to try it anyway. What really surprised me was how lightweight this amp is. It is only slightly larger then my B20 Crate amp (from the late 80s) and a probably half the weight. This is going to be a nice amp for gigs to haul around with enough power to fill a small or medium size venue/bar.

I will report more when I get to crank the volume up a tad since I have a full house but I have to say, I never bought any equipement before trying it and I have very happy with this result.

Congratulations on your new amp. It sounds like you got a good one. Please keep us posted on how it is working for you. I am sure it is way better than the crate.

Just got mine today too!! But mine was busted right out of the box! The ON/OFF button was broken and did not function. The amp turned on when you plug in the power cord. But you can't turn it off via the button. Contacted GK and they will replace it.

The kicker is.....this is the SECOND issue I have had with one of their MB products. Last June I bought a MB 212. Busted right out of the box!! The internal PCB completely broke off the chassis and was dangling free making all sorts of nice sounding electrical noises.

GK did make it right and sent me a new one. But with TWO MB products broken right out of the box.....I will not be buying anymore "Chinese" GK products. Obviously a lack of good QC.

But I must say, the MB 212 is an awesome amp. I use it for most of my gigs. I just hope it holds up long term. The MB 112....well I have to send it GK, but the little I played with it did sound good.

Strangely enough, I always like Crate. I own 4 of their amps - B10, B20, GT80, and a BV120H. The only one that failed was the B20 speaker. I used to play that at max because it was too small before I got the 100w GK years ago. The other three work perfect and they are all over 15 years old. With that said, there is no comparison to my GK's. These amps ROCK!

Maybe you need the UPS guy to deliver it upside down? I came home for lunch and it was sitting on my front step flipped over. What a moron. Still, I opened it right up, plugged it in and everything seemed to work fine. Since my wife goes to work and hour before me, I might have to turn the volume past 3 and see how rich it sounds with some power behind it. The anticipation is killing me
